THE ENVIRONS OF LONDON, c. 1840. Engraved by W. Hughes, printed
and published by G. Virtue of London. The original is undated, but as the London
and Birmingham Railway, opened to traffic in 1839, is the only line shown, we
can date this map very closely. It covers an area from Edgware in the north to
Wimbledon in the south, and from Brentford in the west to Barking in the easti.e., approximately equivalent to modern Greater London, and rather smaller than the
are covered by the Village London Atlas, to which it provides a useful adjunct.
A nice, well-detailed map.

A PERSPECTIVE VIEW OF THE COLLEGIATE CHURCH OF ST. PETER, WESTMINSTER: the original is a superb copper engraving by William Henry Toms (fl.17231758)
for the series of views known collectively as Perspective Views of all the
Ancient Churches (published London 17361739). Toms was one of the finest
engravers of his time, and the quality of his artistry in this and LON2 below
is nothing short of exquisite. The originals are hard to come by, and cost well
in excess of £100.00. 16" x 13" (405mm x 330mm), A3 Super.
