CEYLON: This and the three maps that follow are taken from
The Royal Illustrated Atlas of Modern Geography, published by
Fullarton & Co. of London & Edinburgh, c. 1860. The originals are beautiful
steel engravings by G. H. Swanston, with delicate original colouring. The map
of Ceylon is based in part on Frasers Trigonometrical Survey of the Kandian
Districts of c. 1845. Original approx 9.25"x5.5" (235mm x 140mm). Our
reproduction, enlarged to approximately 17"x15" (430mm x 250mm) allows
the splendid detail to be more fully appreciated.
